Description
The Liaocheng section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is part of the ancient Huitong River. It is located in Yanggu County, Dongchangfu District and Linqing City under the jurisdiction of Liaocheng. During the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Huitong River had been an important channel for transporting grain from the south to the North and for economic and cultural exchanges between the North and the south. Liaocheng also benefited from the prosperity of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and its economy and culture had been prosperous for 400 years.
