The fishing village of Monopoli overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the province of Bari. Puglia, Italy #333784524
Description
Just before the Itria Valley and Salento begin to draw the territories of the "heel" of Italy, Monopoli appears, a fishing village, a city founded on the sea. Extending on the plain called "marina", it owes the historical succession of cultures and peoples to its strategic position on the Adriatic. A commercial hub, a bridge between the West and the East, over the centuries it has seen the passage of Cretans, Byzantines, Normans, Spaniards, Venetians. A city rich in monuments of Baroque architecture, among which the Charles V castle and the cathedral stand out, the historic center is made up of a network of narrow alleys overlooked by the fishermen's homes and noble palaces
