It is similar to a calzone, made of dough stuffed with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. The panzerotti is then deep fried to golden brown crispness. The cheese inside melts and the whole thing is served hot and delicious often with a bowl of tomato sauce to dip into. Other ingredients are sometimes added like typical pizza toppings of black olives, mushrooms, or pepperoni. They are particularly popular around Philadelphia Pennsylvania where they are served in pizza restaurants.
