In Frida's last days while she was in her 50s, she painted lots of still lifes. She was in such a horrible pain during this time that she was unable to go out of the house, and sometimes, even out of her bed. She usually uses the fruits from her garden and local market as the subjects of her still life paintings. She would arrange the fruits on the table by her bedside and started painting. She also liked to add political meanings to her still life paintings by adding flags, inscriptions or a peace dove to deliver some messages.
