The Snaefellsnes peninsula is situated to the west of Borgarfjordur, in western Iceland. The peninsula has a volcanic origin having the Snaefellsnes volcanic belt down its centre, and the Snaefellsjokull volcano, regarded as one of the symbols of Iceland, at its western tip.
