Description

Wide stepped concrete balcony with edge on left and second story of building on right. Concrete buttresses divide building into sections with shallow sloping concrete roof with three all concrete chimneys and two large brick and glazed tile ones with red tiled roof tower behind on right. Moravian Pottery and Tile Works is a unique poured concrete building designed and built by Henry Mercer during the Art and Crafts movement. It reflects the Spanish influence on mission architecture and was completed in 1912. It produced hand made tiles and mosaics for floors, walls and ceilings. Now a National Historic Landmark it is maintained as a working “working history" museum still producing a few limited decorative ceramic tiles
