Description
The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most instantly recognize bridges in the world. Initial design, by Joseph Strauss, in 1917. When it opened in 1937, it was both the tallest and the longest suspension bridge in the world. Its orange color, officially International Orange, is what really makes the bridge so instantly recognizable. The Golden Gate Straight which the bridge was built to span, is one mile long, the bridge itself being one and one half miles long. Along the various sides of the two towers are dedication plaques to the individuals and organizations that made the bridge possible.
