Lone Sailor Statue at iconic Golden Gate Bridge 2 #338759252
Description
The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most instantly recognize bridges in the world. Initial design, by Joseph Strauss, in 1917. When it opened in 1937, it was both the tallest and the longest suspension bridge in the world. Its orange color, officially International Orange, is what really makes the bridge so instantly recognizable. The Golden Gate Straight which the bridge was built to span, is one mile long, the bridge itself being one and one half miles long. Ever since the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, many many service men, and woman, sailed under the iconic Bridge. In honor of this, there is the 'Lone Sailor Statue' along with Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Navy and Marine Corps Memorials, dedicated April 2002.
