The excavation of Yungang Grottoes began in the Northern Wei Dynasty (460 AD) and lasted about 150 years. The grottoes were excavated along the mountain, with a magnificent scale and majestic momentum, stretching about 1 kilometer from east to west. Every year, it attracts a large number of tourists to visit. Yungang Grottoes currently has 45 main caves, 252 caves of various sizes, and more than 59,000 stone sculptures. It was listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2001.
