The Great Sphinx is a monumental ancient statue carved out of monolithic lime rock in the form of an animal with the body of a lion and, according to some researchers, the face of Pharaoh Cheops. Over thousands of years, the Great Sphinx has lost its nose, beard and part of its headdress. The complex is located about 25 kilometers from the center of the capital Cairo, in the vicinity of the Nile River Delta.
