Description
Aydin Vilayet is in southwestern Turkey on the coast of the Aegean Sea. The administrative center of the vilayet is the city of Aydin. Aydin was founded by the Thracians. Later this area was ruled by Spartans, Frisians, Ionians, Lydians, Persians and Romans. In 1186, this area was taken over by the Seljuks and later in 1426 by the Ottoman Empire. The main sources of income are tourism and agriculture. Aydin is known for its large production of figs and export of dried figs. In addition, olives, cotton, citrus fruits, watermelons and other fruits are produced in Ajdin.
