Purse seine fishing illustration. #344876368
Description
Purse seine fishing is a method of catching schools of fish in the open ocean using a large net that's encircled around the fish and then tightened to trap them. Purse seine fishing is used to catch single-species schools of pelagic fish, such as tuna and mackerel. It can also be used to catch fish around fish aggregating devices (FADs). One of the most difficult parts of purse seine fishing is finding a school of fish. This can be done by looking for natural cues like seabirds, dolphins, or ruffled water, or by using radar fish finders or helicopters.
