Big-tooth Aspen, also known as: American aspen, Canadian poplar, Large-toothed poplar #345979543
Description
The big-tooth aspen (Populus grandidentata) is a deciduous tree that typically reaches heights of 18 to 24 meters. When young, its bark has an attractive orange-green hue, maturing into a brown, furrowed texture with age. The oval-shaped leaves, characterized by their toothed edges, transition from green to vibrant yellow in the fall. This species is dioecious, meaning male and female plants are separate. Male flowers appear as tan, drooping catkins, while female flowers are smaller and produce seeds. Clonal trees often sprout from its roots, aiding in reforestation after events like wildfires. The tree's leaves, bark, twigs, and flower buds serve as a food source for various wildlife.
