Pueblo Revival style homes over former Russian graveyard Russian Hill San Francisco 1 #348898152
Description
This trio grouping of Pueblo Revival style homes are very unique. First, because Pueblo Revival style homes are considered a Southwest style type architecture. Since California in general, and Northern California especially are not part of this region, there are very few examples like this in San Francisco. Architect Charles Whittlesey, who built these homes between 1912 to 1916, lived in Albuquerque New Mexico for some years, so brought that influence back with him.The other feature is, these homes are over the site of a former Russian graveyard. In the early years of this city, there were many graveyards scattered throughout the city, but it wasn't until 1921 that bodies were being removed and relocated to Colma. So we may never know if any bodies remain under any of these homes or not. As seen 4 December 2024.
