Abbey Saint-Benoit-du-lac, Quebec #34911434
Description
Saint-Benoit-du-Lac Abbey (home to Benedictine monks) is located on the west shore of Lake Memphremagog in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada. The original architecture was designed by Dom Paul Bellot (1876-1944), an internationally celebrated French Benedictine architect. Later buildings were designed by Dom Claude Côté (1909-1986). The church, consecrated in December 1994, is the most recent of the buildings and was designed by Montreal architect Dan S. Hanganu. On the grounds, a guest house is available for men who wish to withdraw in retreat for a few days in an atmosphere of peace and meditation. Women are also welcomed in a neighbouring house run by nuns.
