Although the Meyer lemon tree is named for Frank Meyer, who while working for the US Department of Agriculture, brought one back from China while on a trip there in 1908, all that he did was bring one back home with him, there is evidence it was know, and used, in Asia already for thousands of years by then. By 1940 this tree was found throughout California, but unfortunately there was a virus that did not affect the tree, it wiped out other citrus trees not just across the country, but around the world. It wasn't until the 1950's that a virus are version was made, and finally release in 1975.
