Description
Tomb of the Constantin Brancoveanu, Lord of the Romanian Country (born in 1654 - died 15 august 1714). He was a great nobleman and during his reign (1688 - 1714) The Romanian Country experienced a period of cultural flowering and development of spiritual life. He was beheaded together with his 4 sons and his faithful friend Enache VÃÆcÃÆrescu at Constantinople because he did not want give up his orthodox religion belief and convert to islamism. The reason he is commemorated nowadays is that he is considered to be a saint (canonized in 1992 - together with the other 5) and because he raised many monasteries and churches, including Sambata Monastery.
