The steamer M.M. Drake sank in a Lake Superior storm in 1901. It collided with the barge Michigan while attempting a rescue, with the loss of both ships and one crewmember. The wooden rudder of the M.M. Drake is currently on display at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
