Description

Red poppy (Papaver rhoeas) also known as common poppy, Flanders poppy, corn poppy, corn rose and field poppy, is an annual herbaceous flowering plant in the poppy family Papaveraceae. In this plant stems hold large and showy single flower with four slightly overlapping petals that are vivid red, most commonly with a black spot at their base. Flower stems are usually covered with coarse hairs that are held at right angles to the surface. The capsules are hairless, egg-shaped, less than twice as tall as they are wide, with a stigma at least as wide as the capsule. Plant exudes white to yellowish latex when the tissues are broken.
