Indian Handmade Madhubani paintings are created by certain families in the Madhubani district of Bihar, India. It is said that during the wedding of Sita Ji, King Janak of Mithila invited some women to create these paintings, and since then, they have been in practice. The people of Madhubani district have been making these paintings since the time of the Ramayana. They also make the canvas for these paintings themselves, using a mixture of paper and cotton in equal parts. Natural colors are used in these paintings, such as flowers, turmeric, betel leaves, cow dung, lime, and others. These paintings are made on a canvas of 50.8 x 76.2 cm, and it takes about 1 to 2 months to complete one painting. Therefore, these paintings are quite expensive.
