Description
Pictured is an oil on canvas titled Portrait of Mariano Goya, the Artist's Grandson on display in the Meadows Museum on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. It was painted in 1827 by Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes. Goya envisioned a bright future for his only grandson, for whom he made generous fiscal provisions. Unfortunately, Mariano would never take up a profession or become financially solvent. He sold much of his grandfather's art to alleviate his own debts.
