Pictured is the bronze information plaque for the mural 'Lewis and Clark in Kansas'' by David H. Overmyer in the first floor rotunda of the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka. President Jefferson dispatched captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the Louisiana Territory after its purchase from France in 1803. Following the Missouri River, the expedition reached Kansas in June, 1804, and pushed on west to the Pacific Ocean, returning in 1806.
