The Pont des Arts (Arts or gateway) is a bridge crossing the Seine in central Paris. It connects the docks Malaquais Conti and at the Institut de France, in the 6th arrondissement, wharves François Mitterrand and Louvre at the courtyard of the Louvre Palace (which was called Palais des Arts under the First Empire) in 1erarrondissement. The Pont des Arts is registered as a historic monument since March 17, 1975. Parapets screened the Pont des Arts are now support many padlocks hung by couples around the world: these are locks of love. These locks typically include entries made in indelible marker (or even inscriptions) mentioning the names or initials of two lovers, the date on which the lock was hooked, and possibly a short message.
