Description
Inaugurated for the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, the first stone was laid by Tsar Nicolas II of Russia in 1896, and was intended to symbolize the friendship between France and Russia, established by the signing of the alliance in 1891 between his father, the Emperor Alexander III (1845-1894) and the President of the French Republic Sadi Carnot. The construction of this work of art was entrusted to Jean Amédée Alby Résal and engineers as well as architects Cassian Bernard and Gaston Cousin.
