Great Tit Parus major. It is easily recognized by its mostly black head, large white cheek spot, yellow underside and broad black stripe across the middle of its belly. The great tit frequents forests and edges as well as clearings in thicker forests. It is also found in orchards, hedgerows, parks and gardens, the edges of cultivated areas and in towns and countryside near people. The great tit feeds mainly on trees or plants as well as on the ground. It catches all kinds of insects in leaves, larvae and spiders. It can also dig out the larvae of processionary caterpillars from their burrows. It can also peck at ripe fruit directly on the tree in search of worms hidden inside.
