Description

The Black-throated Fritillary is slightly larger than the Purple-striped Fritillary and has more purple-brown on the underside of the hindwing. The purple-brown colour covers about half of the wing. There are no white or silver spots. The large cell in the middle of the hindwing is filled with two colours in the Purple-striped Fritillary this cell has only one colour. On the upper side of the hindwing there is no brown band along the outer edge, but there are free-standing brown spots. The forewings of the Black-throated Fritillary have rounded wingtips, which makes the butterfly appear large.
