Description
Bird: Common Tern. Sterna hirundo. All terns (Sterninae) are more graceful than gulls and are generally smaller. When flying, their long, thin wings are folded back. They are found in a variety of coastal and inland habitats ranging from sea level to altitudes of 4,000 meters. Like other tern species, the tern is a wetland feeder. It either collects its prey by flying in waves on the surface of the water or by diving to the surface. Terns also make the prey-stealing move seen in other species. It tries to steal the prey caught by another tern.
