Police Boat 813 at Bang Niang/Khao Lak #37140941
Description
Khao Lak, Thailand ââ¬â August 14, 2013: As the tsumani in 2004 surge plowed into Khao Lak, ravaging everything in its path, this huge heavy boat was pushed 2 km inland where it still sits today. The boat was left where it landed and is now maintained as a memorial, although there is very little around it except a sign. Police Boat 813, (central Bang Niang, inland side). Was one of two police boats guarding Khun Phum Jensen, son of former royal Princess Ubol Ratana (his father was an American, hence the last name) at the time of the 2004 tsunami. Khun Phum was jet-skiing when the wave struck, and he and the entire crew of one of the police boats (which was sunk) died. This is the other boat, which was swept approximately 2 km inland and has been left where the tsunami deposited it as a memorial and historical landmark. Extensive works during low season 2012 developed the site into a park with museum with free entry
