Karmann K2 concept car (2000) #373111606
Description
The Karmann K2 was a concept car based on E36 BMW unveiled in 2000 by German coachbuilder Karmann. It was a compact, two-seater roadster with a retractable hardtop, reflecting the growing trend of convertible roofs at the time. The K2 featured a lightweight aluminium body and incorporated advanced technology, including a drive-by-wire system. Interestingly, the K2 was powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine from Volkswagen, delivering a sporty performance. Although it never entered production, the K2 demonstrated Karmann's expertise in convertible roof systems, which they later supplied for various car manufacturers, and remains a memorable example of early 2000s automotive innovation. Nevertheless, the Karmann K2 is an interesting take on a coupe, convertible, and a pickup truck â all in a small car like the E36.
