Whitchurch Canonicorum Church #37700381
Description
Surprising large and grand for a village church, St. Candida and Holy Cross is very special. Now 1000 years old. This small country church shares a distinction to which only Westminster Abbey can otherwise lay claim and which made it a major centre of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. Often referred to a 'The Cathedral of the Vale', pilgrims travelled here to visit the relics of the patron saint in the shrine of St Candida (St. Wite), using many tracks and paths which all lead to the church
