Netherlands, province Zeeland, village Ellewoutsdijk [municipality Borsele]: Fort Ellewoutsdijk is a defense work from 1839, since the Treaty of London the Netherlands had to guarantee the access to the port of Antwerp and the Western Scheldt. This coastal, sea, fort is a landmark, cultural heritage site, national monument and tourist attraction. The fortress is now partially surrounded by a moat and is the property of the Dutch Association of Nature monuments, who bought the historic building because of its special ecological value.
