Lao New Year (Pi Mai Lao) was celebrated in April 2014. In Luang Prabang an elephant procession took place on April 13th to welcome the new year. The ceremony lead several nicely decorated elephants through the old part of Luang Prabang towards Wat Xieng Thong for some customs. People on the streets were feeding the elephants with bananas and sugar cane. Monks also happily took part in the procession. Luang Prabang is a UNESCO world heritage city.
