Back Part Of The Sanctuary Of Puiggracios Royalty-Free Stock Photo

The Sanctuary of Puiggracios is dedicated to the Virgin of Puiggracios which is the name of the peak of a height of 808 meters not far to the church. In the year 1701 the construction of the sanctuary very near to the point where according to the legend the statue of the virgin was found. During the spanish civil war, in 1936 the sanctuary was destroyed and the precious altarpiece of the main altar was lost. The image of the virgin could be saved thanks to the courage of several neighbors who hid the statue in different places. In the year 1939 the reconstruction of the church began as just the four walls were left at this point. Finally in the year 1951 the inauguration took place with solemnity with the assistance of the bishop of the Barcelona. From the year 1973 up to the present day a group of Benedictine nuns took over and inhabit the place.
