Playa de Oro, Ecuador #44818912
Description
This is one of the 2 entrances to Playa de Oro, Ecuador. This small village of about 400 people is only accessible by boat. The Cotacachi-Cayapas National Margay Reserve is managed by the people in this town, and sustainable forest practices are largely observed here which is unusual for this region. Houses are built on stilts due to frequent flooding of the Rio Santiago. The water level can rise as much as 1 foot per hour in heavy rains, which can cause extremely devastating flooding in severe rainstorms.
