Description
Kazan Cathedral (the Cathedral of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God is one of the largest churches in St. Petersburg, made in the Empire style. Built on the Nevsky Prospekt in 1801-1811, architect A. N. Voronikhin for storing honored with a list of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Kazan. After the Patriotic war of 1812 gained importance as a monument of Russian military glory. In 1813, buried here was the commander M. I. Kutuzov and placed the keys taken from cities and other military trophies. In 1932 turned into a Museum of the history of religion and atheism, since 1991 the Church, a few years led to the Museum. Since 2000, the Cathedral of St. Petersburg diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. Rector, Archpriest Pavel Krasnoperov.
