Description
This is a picture of the old pumping station on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. The structure was designed by William Boyington, constructed in yellow limestone, and built in 1869. It is the second oldest such structure in the United States, was the model for White Castle structures, and is one of the structures surviving from the burn zone of the Chicago Fire of 1871. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 23, 1975. This picture was taken on December 31, 2014.
