Ion Caramitru (b. March 9, 1942, Bucharest) is a theater and film actor, director Romanian and Aromanian origin. The president of UNITER in 1990 and currently is the director of the 2005 National Theatre in Bucharest. Caramitru graduated from the Theatre and Film IL Caragiale, Professor Beate Fredanov class in 1964, when he debuted on the stage and the National Theatre in Bucharest, Eminescu by Mircea Stefanescu. He was an actor and director in Bulandra, whose directorate to and held in the period 1990 - 1993. He was Minister of Culture in the years 1996-2000.
