Stepped gables in Haarlem, the Netherlands #48881754
Description
The dutch city of Haarlem was granted city status or stadsrechten in 1245, although the first city walls were not built until 1270. In 1632 a tow canal between Haarlem and Amsterdam, the Haarlemmertrekvaart was opened, the first tow canal in the country. The empty areas in the city that were a result of the fire of 1576 were filled with new houses and buildings, like these row of stepped gable houses in the street Groot Heiligland.
