Pasterze Glacier near the Grossglockner, Austria #51343615
Description
The Pasterze glacier lies at the base of Austria's tallest mountain, the Grossglockner. The Pasterze is the longest glacier in Austria and the Eastern Alps, reaching from the 3,453 meter Johannisberg to 2,100 meters above sea level. It is located in the Hohe Tauern mountain range in Carinthia and can be reached by way of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road and a funicular railway. The glacier decreases 33 feet each year since measurements began in 1851. It is a spectacular view from the Visitor's Center located at the top where visitors can eat and buy souvenirs. Marmots are spotted frequently on the slopes surrounding the glacier.
