Hotel de Ville (Town Hall) of Paris, France is a 19th century reconstruction of the old 17th century building which burned down in 1871. Highly ornate with elaborate stoneworks, turrets and statues it overlooks a square which in ancient times was used for public executions, but now is a delight to stroll in.
