Macarons are often known as Macaroons, a different confection that is somehow similar to a meringue also. Macarons are a French pastry made of egg-whites, almond powder and confectioners' sugar. It became more popular when Pierre Desfontaines sandwiched a sweet filling between two macaron shells, leading to a large variety of flavours. The macaron is a delightful contrast in itself, with light and crunchy shells hiding a lovely moist and flavourful interior - giving fans the best of both worlds.
