The uglier, the more attractive. The picture was taken in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. A modern buzzy downtown scenery quickly changes to ugly slums where people defecate right on the streets neglecting passers-by, grubby urchins swim in sludge-filled rivers.. We're in a minivan with locked doors and tinted windows so that no one can see we are white and kidnap us. We feel tension and excitement at the same time. We are not allowed to open the windows or stop.
