It was built in 1395, perhaps on a pre-existing structure, by Giovanni Anguissola to reside there with his wife Beatrice Visconti, sister of Gian Galeazzo Visconti. It remains the property of the family Anguissola until 1870 when the count Filippo dies without leaving an heir and the castle passed to his wife Fanny born Visconti di Modrone, who are the current owners.
