Prinsenhof Groningen is located right in the middle of Groningen city center, only meters from the Martini Tower. This house, 400 or 500 years old, was originally used as a friary by the 'Broeders des Gemenenlevens' (Brothers of the Common Life), a strict order that was primarily engaged in translating and copying books. Later it became the Princes’ house when Prince Maurits and Duke Willem Lodewijk occupied the building. The Prinsenhof was used as a stadholder's palace up until the times of the French possession.
