The Boulders, Cairns #56046400
Description

South of Cairns in Queensland, a tourist attration called The Babinda Boulders. It is a swimming hole that also has significance to the Aboriginal people who call it Devils Pool. Their legend is that once a girl named Oolana, from the Yidinji people, married a respected elder from her tribe named Waroonoo. After a short time of being married, she fell in love with another man from another tribe named Dyga. They both escaped into the surrounding rainforest valleys only to be captured. Oolana broke free from her captors and threw herself into the still waters of what is now known as Babinda Boulders, calling for Dyga to follow her. As Dyga hit the waters, her anguished cries for her lost lover turned the still waters into a rushing torrent and the land shook with sorrow. Huge boulders were scattered around the creek and the crying Oolana disappeared among them.
