The Black Church (Die Schwarze Kirche - in German, Biserica Neagra - in Romanian) is the major landmark of the Transylvanian city of Brasov, Romania. Built between 1383 and 1477 and belonging to the Lutheran cult, the Black Church has a height of 65 meters and a length of 89, it was considered upon completion as the largest church between Vienna and Constantinople. Its name comes from the soot and smoke which darkened its facade after the great fire of 1689.
