Tauride Palace was built by order of Catherine II for her favourite, Prince Grigory Potyomkin. In 1797, by decree of Paul I the Palace to the cavalry regiment into barracks. Immediately after Paul's death in 1801, the Tauride Palace was rebuilt as one of the Imperial residences. In the late XIX and early XX century in the Tauride Palace was held a public event, balls. In 1906-1910, the interiors of the building have changed in connection with the State Duma. With the beginning of the February revolution, the Tauride Palace housed the provisional Committee of the State Duma, and then and Provisional government (until July 1917), here there was the Petrograd Soviet of workers ' deputies. Before moving in August 1917, at Smolny, in the Tauride Palace was the seat of the Central Executive Committee of Soviets. 5(18) January 1918 in the Tauride Palace gathered the all-Russian constituent Assembly. In January 1918 in the Tauride Palace was held the Third all-Russian Congress of Soviets in March 1918 Seventh Congress of the RCP(b), in July 1920 — the Second Congress of the Comintern. In the post-Soviet period placed at the disposal of the Interparliamentary Assembly of States-participants of CIS. In the building was held several field meetings of the State Duma and the Federation Council.
