Grand entrance to Kyaiktiyo Pagoda at Mon State, Burma #57790013
Description
Grand entrance to Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (Golden Rock) at Mon State, Burma with a long flight of stairs for visitors and pilgrims to climb. This is very popular with small pagoda built on the top of a granite boulder covered with gold leaves pasted on by devotees. According to old legend, the rock itself is precariously rested on a strand of the Buddha's hair. The balancing rock seems to defy gravity, as it perpetually appears to be on the verge of rolling down the hill. This is the third most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in Myanmar.
