Times Square Kiss-In #57993200
Description
This is a section of a 25-foot sculpture looming over Times Square for a few days. The occasion was the Times Square Kiss-In on the Broadway Plaza between 43rd and 44th Streets on August 14, 2015. This marks the 70th Anniversary of Victory Over Japan Day (V-J Day) marking Japans surrender in World War Two. The statue entitled, Embracing Peace, by Seward Johnson, was placed some meters away from where the iconic photo of a celebrating sailor in a white hat planting a kiss on a young woman in a white skirt (possibly a nurses attire) was snapped by the noted photographer, Alfred Eisenstaedt, 70 years earlier. The Times Square Alliance organized the project as part of a series of events honoring World War II veterans.
