Kissing Statue at Times Square #57993706
Description
A celebrated statue arrived for a few days visit to Times Square in preparation for the August 14, 2015 reenactment. This marks the 70th Anniversary of Victory Over Japan Day (V-J Day) marking Japans surrender in World War Two. A 25-foot sculpture entitled, Embracing Peace, by Seward Johnson, was placed some meters away from where the iconic photo of a celebrating sailor in a white hat planting a kiss on a young woman in a white skirt (possibly a nurses attire) was snapped by the noted photographer, Alfred Eisenstaedt, 70 years earlier. The Times Square Alliance organized the project as part of a series of events honoring World War II veterans.
